Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo

Commissioned by the Festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo

This recording presents three new orchestral works, all given their first performance at the Festival du Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo in April 2017, by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, conducted by Pierre-André Valade. The three works explore new possibilities of using the orchestra and make for fascinating listening. In Sull’essere angeli, for flute and orchestra, the Italian composer Francesco Filidei (b. 1973) departs from the way the instruments are usually played, to create a new dramaturgy. In Move 03, the Czech composer Miroslav Srnka (b. 1975) works with the shifting of orchestral textures. We have here three new ways of challenging the Western orchestral heritage.
