FILM SCREENING
De la musique à l’image en mouvement
Programme of videos by Robert Cahen
In the presence of the artist

Programme
  • Karine (1976, 16 mm, 8 min.)
Photographed from birth to age 6, a child grows up and transforms before our eyes as the photographs come to life.
  • Juste le temps – Bande sonore Michel Chion (1983, vidéo, 13 min.)
During a journey, transformed landscapes become integral participants in a possible encounter between two beings.
  • Montenvers et mer de Glace – co-réalisé avec Stéphane Huter (1987, vidéo, 8 min.)
On a beautiful summer day, peaceful tourists take the Montenvers rack railway. A tribute to the cinema of Jacques Tati.
  • Hong Kong Song – collaboration Ermeline Le Mézo (1989, vidéo, 21 min.)
The film offers a discovery of the city of Hong Kong through its sound identity, between ancient China and modern China.
  • Cartes postales vidéo – collaboration Cahen/Huter/Longuet (1984-1986, vidéo, 5 min.)
This new kind of collection for postcard enthusiasts offers a sensitive and humorous view of a vibrant world.

Born in Valence in 1945, Robert Cahen is a pioneer of video art, known and recognised in France and abroad. A musician, he studied electroacoustic composition under Pierre Schaeffer before joining him in 1971 at the G.R.M., a musical research group at the French broadcasting services, who were then experimenting with image production using electronic tools. For fifty years, the video artist-musician has wrapped his films in textures and sounds. Playing with slow motion and freeze frames, his work immerses the viewer in a sensory experience of time and movement.
