More than just concerts, a virtual odyssey is offered by these performers at this year’s Festival. In three events, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet reveals a whole swathe of his life in music – the father figure of Haydn, his love affair with Debussy and his lifelong predilection for the incandescent concertos of Prokofiev. As for the Quatuor Voce, it offers, in one weekend, a veritable panorama of the string-quartet repertoire, from the earliest experiments of the young Mozart to Shostakovich’s quartet-requiem and the masterpieces of Debussy and Ravel.
